The PHFI Institute of Public Health Sciences (PHFI–IPHS), Deemed to be University, is India’s premier institution dedicated exclusively to advancing education, research, and practice in public health notified under the Distinct Category of UGC (Deemed to be Universities) Regulations 2024.  Rooted in the distinguished legacy of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), the University builds upon more than a decade of pioneering work carried out by the Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) established across the country. Job Requirements: 

  • Health Data Science Teaching & Programming skills 
  • Proficient in programming languages including Python, R, SQL, and foundational Java/JavaScript for data analytics, automation, and visualization applications.  
  • Skilled in the use of major data science libraries and frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow, and PyTorch for machine learning and AI-based solutions.  
  • Capable of teaching and mentoring students in core data science domains, including:  
    • Data preprocessing, transformation, and cleaning  
    • Statistical analysis and interpretation  
    • Machine learning principles and algorithms  
    • Data visualization and interactive dashboard development  
    • Predictive analytics, model building, and performance evaluation
  • Experienced with academic and industry-relevant platforms and tools, including Jupyter Notebook, Google Colab, Tableau, Power BI, and Apache Spark.  
  • Ability to support laboratory sessions, coding exercises, assignments, capstone projects, and hands-on practical training for undergraduate and postgraduate programs.  
  • Strong understanding of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning concepts such as supervised learning, unsupervised learning, deep learning, feature engineering, and model validation techniques.  
  • Familiar with collaborative and cloud-based learning ecosystems including GitHub, AWS Academy, and Google Cloud Skills Boost platforms. 
Teaching skills 
  • Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical sessions in Biostatistics, Data Management, Epidemiology, and related subjects for Public Health students.  
  • Teach core areas including descriptive and inferential statistics, epidemiological methods, research methodology, data analysis, and interpretation relevant to public health practice and research.  
  • Provide statistical and methodological support to faculty members and students, including study design, sample size estimation, data management, statistical analysis, and interpretation of findings.  
  • Design, undertake, and contribute to independent as well as collaborative research projects in the areas of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Data Science, and Public Health.  
  • Contribute to curriculum development, academic review, course planning, and innovation in teaching methodologies related to Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Data Management.  
  • Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Supervisor/Head of Department from time to time. 
Qualification and Experience 
Essential: 
A Master’s degree in Biostatistics/Statistics, Epidemiology, or Public Health (MPH with a strong Biostatistics and/or Epidemiology component) with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a relevant or allied subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university. 
  • Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission. 
Provided further, candidates registered for the Ph.D. programme prior to July 11, 2009, shall be governed by the provisions of the then existing Ordinances / Bye- laws / Regulations of the Institutions awarding the degree and such Ph.D. candidates shall be exempted from the requirement of NET/SLET/SET for recruitment and appointment of Assistant Professor or equivalent positions, subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions: - 
a) Ph.D. degree of the candidate awarded in regular mode only; 
b) Candidate has published two research papers from his/her Ph.D. work out of which at least one must be in a refereed journal; NET/SLET/SET shall also not be required for such Masters Programmes in disciplines for which NET/SLET/SET is not conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET. 

Desirable  
  • Experience in Data science work 
  • Ph.D. in Biostatistics / Statistics / Epidemiology / Public Health  
  • Evidence of research publications, preferably including publications from Ph.D. work, with at least one in a refereed journal  
  • Experience in data analysis using statistical software such as R, STATA, SPSS, or Python  
  • Experience in teaching, research, or handling public health datasets 
  • Experience in guiding postgraduate students.
