Brief on the Organization:
The PHFI Institute of Public Health Sciences (PHFI–IPHS), Deemed to be University, is India’s premier institution dedicated exclusively to advancing education, research, and practice in public health notified under the Distinct Category of UGC (Deemed to be Universities) Regulations 2024. Rooted in the distinguished legacy of the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI), the University builds upon more than a decade of pioneering work carried out by the Indian Institutes of Public Health (IIPHs) established across the country. The Deemed University currently encompasses the campuses at Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Bhubaneswar, while PHFI’s other institutes — including IIPH Gandhinagar, IIPH Delhi, and IIPH Shillong — continue to strengthen the broader national public health network. Together, these institutions form a pan-India ecosystem of teaching, research, capacity building, and policy engagement. Job Requirements:
- Develop and deliver lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical sessions on the following topics for master’s students and doctoral students in
- Epidemiology,
- Biostatistics
- Epidemiological and allied data analysis – basic and advanced
- Research methods
- Disease epidemiology and surveillance - both communicable and non-communicable
- And other related subjects as and when deemed necessary by the institution/department head.
- Mentor and guide students in coursework, dissertations and research projects,
- Provide methodological and data analysis support to faculty members and students, including study design, sample size estimation, data management, statistical analysis, and interpretation of findings.
- Conduct need-based training programmes, workshops, and capacity-building activities
- Design, undertake, and contribute to independent as well as collaborative research projects, preferably externally funded, in different domains of Public Health.
- Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present research work at academic, scientific, and professional forums.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor data management systems ensuring data quality, integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with ethical standards.
- Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders including government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, and research organizations.
- Contribute to curriculum development, academic review, course planning, and innovation in teaching methodologies related to Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Data management and analysis.
- Participate in institutional activities, academic committees, faculty meetings, student engagement activities, and community outreach programmes.
- Undertake travel as required for research activities, field visits, training programmes, conferences, workshops, and project-related assignments.
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by the Supervisor/Head of Institution/Department from time to time.
- A Master’s degree in Public Health / Epidemiology / Biostatistics / Health Data Science/ Biostatistics or a related discipline, with at least 55% marks (or an equivalent grade on a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) from a recognized Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
- Besides fulfilling the above qualifications, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC, CSIR or similar test accredited by the UGC like SLET/SET or who are or have been awarded a Ph.D. Degree in accordance with the University Grants Commission.
- A PhD degree in Public Health or Epidemiology OR
- An MD degree in Community Medicine/Social and Preventive Medicine
- At least two years’ experience in public health research, project implementation, project management, report writing and manuscript publication from project data.
- Advanced skills in analysing public health datasets, preferably national and international datasets, using statistical software: R and STATA
- Good quality impactful peer-reviewed research publications in journals of repute as primary or Knowledge of AI/ML-based prediction models
- Experience in public health teaching and/or training
- Knowledge of and experience of working with national public health programmes and public health systems
